Our new 5–12 Band Director, Miranda Paulson, joins our district with a deep passion for music and education. She was inspired by a musically inclined family and an influential band teacher who demonstrated the lasting impact of music. Mrs. Paulson earned a degree in Music Education from South Dakota State University and holds an associate degree in Band Instrument Repair from Western Iowa Tech Community College, giving her the unique ability to repair most musical instruments. Prior to joining our school, Paulson taught at Avon School District for two years and at Corsica-Stickney School District for five years.

Mrs. Paulson's teaching philosophy centers on growth, positivity, and encouragement, guided by the mottos “Progress, not perfection,” “Be the reason someone smiles today,” and “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” She strives to help students recognize their individual progress and takes great pride in achieving both large and small goals.

Outside the classroom, Mrs. Paulson enjoys spending time outdoors, particularly boating, camping, and swimming. This year, she is looking forward to building connections with students, colleagues, and community members. If given the opportunity to travel anywhere in the world, they would choose Caye Caulker, Belize—a serene island known for its clear blue waters and relaxed atmosphere.

Make sure to welcome Mrs. Paulson to Mount Vernon the next time you see her!
