Each year the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders use their free time to stuff easter eggs to be used in the annual Bella's Easter Egg Hunt at Bella's Butterfly Garden in Mitchell. If you are able to donate plastic eggs and/or candy please send to the school and we will keep the kids busy. The teachers use this as a community service project while teaching them the possible effects of drinking under the influence.

Does your child have a coat that looks like this?? We have a preschooler that has a coat like that and took the wrong one - obviously now the wrong size - way too big. Please check your child's coat and see if he brought home a size 6,7 or 8 size coat like this.

Due to our Girls' Basketball Team qualifying for the South Dakota State A Basketball Tourney in Brookings, there will NO SCHOOL in Mount Vernon on Thursday, March 7, 2024. Our girls play Sisseton at noon on Thursday. Hope to see everyone in Brookings!
State Girls Basketball shirts need to be ordered by noon today. The link is below:

As our girls enter the bigger arena of the SODAK 16, it also increases the spotlight on our students and fans. If you think about how our girls and our coaches conduct themselves on the court, I think you will agree that they compete intensely at a high level but do it with dignity and grace. We, as fans, should honor that. They deserve us to be as LOUD AND PROUD as we possibly can, but they also deserve us to reflect the values they display. Students, I ask you to cheer loudly together, to support your team, but to do so in a way that isn't degrading to the other team. Don't get personal, and don't taunt. Chants like, "GO START THE BUS" can easily be replaced with "WE LOVE OUR TEAM". One of them is taunting, one of them is supportive. Adults - don't even let officiating enter your mind. You can't change it anyway. I have coached over 600 basketball games and I have NEVER seen a ref change a call based on an angry fan, or even a coach for that matter. I have, however seen angry fans walked out of an arena and it is humiliating for them and their child. You can't influence it, so let it go! Focus on supporting your team in a positive way. Let's pack the Arena tonight and give our girls the support they deserve that reflects their approach!
Here are some specific instructions from the Huron Arena:
Our student section will be across from our team bench on the East Side of the Arena. Row one is reserved for handicap and media, so you must sit on row 2. You will NOT be allowed to stand on the orange bleachers, you must stand on the footwells.
Doors open at 4:30, however, they will clear the courtside bleachers after game 1 to allow our fans to have the 'bottom bowl' for our game. If you arrive for the first game, the request is that you sit in the soft seats for the first game, and then move down for our game. Our fan section is on the EAST side of the orange bleachers. The arena seats 5000 people so there will be plenty of room.
Games will be streamed on https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/huron-high-school-huron-sd. There is a small fee to watch games on NFHS.
Fun fact - Tea Area's coach, Adam Schorzmann is a MVHS graduate and served as a student assistant basketball coach when he was in high school. If you arrive for the first game, cheer for Tea!
