We are all 100 days smarter in 2nd grade!

It was my privilege to take the 8th graders to the annual 8th grade Career Fair in Wagner yesterday. They learned about a variety of careers through hands on activities and discussions with professionals, were focused and respectful, and I think they even had some fun!

Mr. Kortemyer will be student teaching in the 5th grade classroom this semester. Here he is explaining expectations he has for the 4th grade as he slowly takes over classes and will eventually have a full workload as he prepares for his career in education after college.

On Thursday, February 1st starting at 12:30 the South Dakota School for the Deaf will be conducting hearing screenings for all students in grades K - 3rd , 7th and 11th.

The 4th, 5th and 6th grade classes were able to attend the Billy Mills presentation at the Corn Palace. Mr. Mills also received the Key to the City in Mitchell and was kind enough to take a picture with our students.

Kindergarten students learned about Penguins today!

Double header tonight in Wagner! There will be C & JV
games for both boys and girls. Come out and support the Titans!

We are planning on a normal start time tomorrow. Winds are diminishing and temperatures are rising. Buses will run where possible. We are aware that many of the country roads have not been plowed. Please be in contact with your bus driver if your roads are impassable. As always, if you are not comfortable putting your child in a vehicle, keep them at home and let us know so we can get them their work. Looking at a full week of much warmer temperatures!

Games are still on for tonight! Here is the schedule and links for live streaming. #RollTitans

The original posting had the wrong date. There is no school today, January 19th. It's a combination of fat fingers and poor eyesight! My apologies! -Mr. Denning

There will be no school today (January 19) in Mount Vernon. A decision on the games in the Corn Palace will be made later.

Due to blowing snow and problematic temperatures, Mount Vernon will be having a 9:30 start tomorrow, January 19, 2024. Buses will run as normal. Pickup time at the 4h grounds will be from 8:50-9:00.

For their formal research paper in English class, the juniors are exploring different career options that fit their individual goals and interests. They will compare and contrast the different careers' salaries, work environments, school requirements, advantages, disadvantages, and everything in-between. Finally, they will then present their chosen careers to the class. Mrs. Caery hopes that this assignment helps prepare them more for life outside of high school!

Due to deteriorating weather conditions, the Mount Vernon School will be dismissing today, January 18th at 1:00. All activities are cancelled for tonight. Dropoff at the 4H grounds will be at approximately 1:15. Stay safe!

I had donuts with some amazing student leaders this morning. Keep up the good work.

The Mount Vernon one act play placed third, or as alternate for state competition in the case of a school backing out. Superior rankings were awarded to Sabrina Strand, Hagan Tlam, and Celina Trisco. So proud of these guys!

2nd grade's science activity was to imagine they were stranded on a tropical island with nothing to protect them from the sun other than the lunch bag they packed. The task was to create a hat that would protect them yet be as resistant to water as possible. How'd they do?
